Abstract

This study examines the experiences of Taiwanese students from Fengchia University who participated in an international internship program at Xin Miao Language Centre in Surabaya during July–August 2025. The research aims to understand how the internship contributes to building the institution’s image and competitive advantage. Data were collected through open-ended questionnaires completed by student interns and feedback from cultural classes, and analyzed using thematic analysis and the Gioia methodology. The findings indicate that mentor support, student engagement, teaching opportunities, and the pedagogical culture of the East Branch are key success factors, while language barriers and facility disparities across branches remain challenges. Overall, international internships not only enrich the experiences of student interns and local learners but also serve as an institutional strategy for reputation building, differentiation, and sustaining competitive advantage in the language education market
